6172 General Information (we enclose this page with each Node )

All information of this CAN Node can be found on Internet site: www.cd-systems.com
Each Node will be shipped with:
This Node

About this Node

Serial number

[ ]

The Application Layer

The Node contains the following Application Layer (the software that communicates with the CAN bus).

Loaded

Node active LED indicates

[ ] CANopen

3 blinks
[ ] SDS

4 blinks
[ ] DeviceNet

5 blinks
The 'Node active LED' (when mounted) indicates the active Application Layer by the number of blinks.
When the Node is not active the LED blinks three or more times and will be dark for 2s.

Node power connection

The 6172 Node must be supplied by one of the following connections:

1) connect a 5 Volt supply to J4.11 (5Vsup)

2) connect 12 Volt to J4.17(Vbb), connect J4.13 (5Vreg) to J4.11 (5Vsup)
(remark: the CAN bus power is connected to Vbb)

The Node ID

The Node ID must be selected by connecting pin J4.1 (id1), J4.2 (id2), J4.3 (id4), J4.4 (id8), J4.5 (id16), J4.6 (id32) and J4.7 (id64) to 5Volt or Gnd.
see connections
(remark: All to Gnd select ID by EEPROM with CFG6000 program)

CAN baud rate

The CAN baud rate must be selected by connecting pin J4.8 (bs1), J4.9 (bs2)and J4.10 (bs3) to 5 Volt or Gnd.
see connections.
(remark: All to Gnd select baud rate by EEPROM with CFG6000 program)

I/O Voltage level

Connect J3.17 (Vio) to the required I/O output voltage level (2.7 - 5 Volt)

Not used input pins

Connect the not used inputs to Gnd to prevent high current consumption.

inputs: J2.2 (in1), J2.3 (in2), J3.5 (in3), J3.6 (in4), J3.8 (in5), J3.9 (in6), J3.11 (in7) and J3.12 (in8),
J3.8 (cts), J3.14 (ain1), J3.15 (ain2). Connect J3.5 (rxd) to 5 Volt.

VSLP connection

Connect J4.16 (vslp) the CAN bus slope control direct or via a resistor to Gnd.

Terminators

A terminator (resistor of 120R) must be connected between the CAN-L and the CAN-H wires on each end of the entire bus.

The 6392 is supplied with one terminator.

WIN6000 program

The WIN6000 program can be used to:

The WIN6000 program communicates via the RS232 port of your PC and a 6392 CAN/RS232 Node to one or more connected Nodes.
When you use a CAN PC card use CDAL commands to change a default Node ID, baud rate.

You can down load WIN6000 from Internet.

Sequences

Write your sequences (for the communication between your chips and the 6172) with the free on Internet available assembler.
All information about the sequence instructions (and their execution times) are also available on Internet.
